PARTICIPATION AND RULES
"Varese Città Giardino Awards"
The Solevoci Music Association will organize the musical contest “Solevoci Competition”, in the dates of June 5 and 6, 2010. The contest is open to a-cappella groups belonging to the following categories:
o Jazz A-cappella Ensemble (up to 8 singers)
o Pop A-cappella Ensemble (up to 8 singers):
o Choral Jazz (groups with more than 8 singers):
o Choral Pop/Gospel (groups with more than 8 singers):
CONTEST CATEGORIES
The contest is reserved for the following categories:
CATEGORY I: JAZZ A-CAPPELLA ENSEMBLE
Includes vocal groups featuring up to 8 singers, previously selected by the Artistic Commission. All the selected groups will be evaluated by an International Panel that will draw up a merit ranking based on a numeric score.
All vocal groups can perform a free selection of songs with a jazz arrangement without the use of musical instruments.
CATEGORY II: POP A-CAPPELLA ENSEMBLE
Includes vocal groups featuring up to 8 singers, previously selected by the Artistic Commission. All the selected groups will be evaluated by an International Panel that will draw up a merit ranking based on a numeric score.
All vocal groups can perform a free selection of songs with a pop arrangement without the use of musical instruments.
CATEGORY III: Jazz Choir
Includes choirs featuring more than 8 singers, previously selected by the Artistic Commission. All the selected choirs will be evaluated by an International Panel that will draw up a merit ranking based on a numeric score.
All vocal groups can perform a free selection of songs with a pop or jazz arrangement without the use of musical instruments.
CATEGORY IV: Pop/Gospel Choir
Includes choirs featuring more than 8 singers, previously selected by the Artistic Commission. All the selected choirs will be evaluated by an International Panel that will draw up a merit ranking based on a numeric score.
All vocal groups can perform a free selection of songs with a pop or jazz arrangement without the use of musical instruments
RULES

There is no limit to the number of applicant groups and choirs.

The deadline for the application is March 1, 2010.

By March 15, 2010 Solevoci’s Staff and Artistic Panel will decide which of the choirs and vocal groups to accept for the contest. The decision cannot be questioned or changed.
GENERAL RULES
a) Groups belonging the categories Jazz and Pop A-Cappella Ensemble (Categories I and II) must not include more than 8 singers.
Groups belonging to the category Jazz and Pop Choir must include more than 8 singers.
b) All performances must not exceed the duration of 20 minutes.
c) Mixed voiced groups (featuring both male and female singers) are accepted in all categories.
d) The number of categories for which the group applies will be considered as a priority for the acceptance in the contest.
e) Groups and choirs are requested to acknowledge and understand all the rules before applying.
f) The performances will take place in a single phase and will be open to the public.
g) Solevoci’s staff will provide microphones and professional amplification equipment.

SOLEVOCI INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION - “Varese Città Giardino” is divided into the following categories:
CATEGORY I – Jazz A-Cappella Ensemble
Groups will perform a musical programme without instrumental accompaniment. The songs must have a typical jazz arrangement.
The use of microphones is permitted.
CATEGORY II – Pop A-Cappella Ensemble
Groups will perform a musical programme without instrumental accompaniment. The songs must have a typical pop arrangement.
The use of microphones is permitted.
CATEGORY III – A-Cappella Jazz Choir
Choirs will perform a musical programme without instrumental accompaniment. The songs must have a choral arrangement in a jazz or pop style.
The use of microphones is permitted.
CATEGORY IV – A-Cappella Pop/Gospel Choir
Choirs will perform a musical programme without instrumental accompaniment. The songs must have a choral arrangement in a jazz or pop style.
The use of microphones is permitted.

The final ranking of groups performing in all three categories will be drawn up according to the judgement of the International Panel.
All members of the International Panel will express their own individual judgment. The final score will result from the arithmetic mean of the scores given by each Panel member, excluding the highest and lowest score.

The 1st prize from 85 to 100 point
The 2nd prize from 70 to 84,99 point
The 3rd prize from 60 to 69,99 point

All the competing groups will receive the details of the evaluation expressed by the Panel for their performance. The directors of each group will be given the possibility to meet the members of the Artistic Panel if previously requested to the secretarial staff of the competition.

The groups which do not show up for the performance at the agreed time and date, or those who do not compete in the categories for which they have been accepted, will be excluded from the contest. Such exclusion releases the Organisational Committee from any obligation defined in these rules towards the group.

Any appeal concerning alleged infringements of these rules must be advanced to the secretarial staff by the Director of the group, so that facts can be promptly verified. Verbal objection is accepted, but it must immediately be followed by a written complaint, otherwise the appeal will not be judged admissible.
Groups shall organize their stay and bear all travel, board and accommodation costs. If requested, Solevoci will provide a list of partner hotels or travel agencies.
The Organisational Committee will freely provide a guide for each group.
Audio-video recordings, legal notes
A.
Solevoci reserves the right to make audio or video recordings of the musical performances, which may be broadcasted on radio or TV, or published otherwise in Italy or abroad, with no remuneration for the groups or their directors .
B.
Solevoci reserves the right to modify these rules for reasons beyond our control. Changes will be promptly communicated to the groups.
C.
The groups who take part in the Competition must acknowledge and accept all the rules written in this document.
D.
These rules are proposed for your convenience in several languages, however, only the Italian text should be referred to in case of dispute. In such case, the place of jurisdiction will be the Law Court of Varese.
